Normalcy ‎returns to NASS

NORMALCY has temporarily returned to the National Assembly following the suspension of the Industrial action embarked upon by the workers under the umbrella of Parliamentary Staff Association (PASSAN), who shut down the Complex on Tuesday.

Consequently, the doors of the two Chambers which was firmly put under lock were thrown open for the lawmakers to attend plenary sessions of the day.

As at Press time, the two Chambers which could not sit at the Plenary on Tuesday are in full session going about the items on the Order Papers.

An official of PASSAN‎ told TribuneOnline that the action was suspended following the genuine intervention of the President of the Senate, Senator Bukola Saraki and the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon Yakubu Dogara into the matter.

“We are putting our action on hold for just today to see what the intervention of the leadership of the two Chambers will bring if nothing is forthcoming, then, the action will be total.

“We still stand on our position of ‘No alert, No plenary’ and ‘ani- Omoliri must Go’, we are not fools, they have taken us for granted for long,” the official declared.

The angry workers had on Tuesday shut down the Complex and sealed off the two Chambers in protest of their unpaid allowances and stagnant promotions for over the years.

Attempts by both Saraki and Dogara to pacify the protesting workers were rebuffed and insisted that their demands must be addressed promptly.
