The executive secretary of the commission, Professor Bashir Usman, who   described the dwindling rate of girl-child education among the pastoralists as a critical issue said that a recent survey conducted by the commission showed that the rate of out-of-school girls among the nomads is increasing at an alarming rate.

Professor Usman made the comments in Minna, the Niger State capital, Tuesday last week during an advocacy and sensitisation workshop for the promotion of girls’ education among the nomads.

He noted that about 20 nomadic communities in Sokoto and Kebbi States have been selected for a pilot project on the new initiative.

The workshop, he explained, was aimed at accelerating Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

While advising participants at the workshop to apply the knowledge and skills acquired for the promotion of girl-child education in nomadic schools across the country, Usman stated further that the training was organised to enhance the capacity of participants to learn and articulate viable and acceptable intervention programmes at the community levels to overcome impending factors against nomadic girls’ participation in school.
