NOA, Niger Rep sensitise constituents against social vices

The National Orientation Agency (NOA), in collaboration with the House of Representative member representing Chanchaga Federal Constituency of Niger State, Malam Abubakar Abdul Buba, aka (cashier), has sensitised constituents to shun social vices.

Participants at the one-day sensitisation programme were drawn from Chanchaga Federal Constituency of Niger State, who will serve as ambassadors to champion the sensitisation programme held at the Dogon Koli Hotel in Minna on Saturday.

Speaking at the event, Director General of NOA, Malam Issa-Onilu, said the campaign aimed to reorient citizens towards shunning social vices and embracing values that promote national peace and development.

Issa-Onilu, represented by Director of Public Enlightenment and Mass Mobilisation, NOA, Mrs Theresa Maduekwe, emphasised the agency’s commitment to raising awareness about the dangers of social vices.

“These vices include drugs and substance abuse, banditry, sexual and gender-based violence, trafficking in persons, ritual killings, radicalisation, violent extremism, and cybercrimes,” he said.

He noted that Chanchaga Federal Constituency was not immune to these social vices, particularly among youth, which had become a pressing concern.

He mentioned that NOA’s thematic intervention programme CLHEEAN would coordinate efforts to address these issues towards the promotion of national development.

In his address, Hon. Abdull Buba said the initiative was to educate his constituency as proactive steps to address the growing concerns of social vices in the Chanchaga community.

He stated, “The campaign aimed to correct societal abnormalities and promote values, principles, and ideologies that shape individuals and communities.”

“This project seeks to reorient, especially our youths, towards shunning social vices and embracing values that promote national peace and development,” he said.

He expressed commitment to the well-being of his constituents and promised to continue to serve Chanchaga Federal Constituency.

Earlier, the State Director of NOA in Niger State, Malam Yahaya Gbogbo, commended the lawmaker for organising the campaign aimed at correcting societal ills.

He said, “The initiative aligns with NOA’s mandate to reorient citizens’ mindsets, promoting patriotism and adherence to established rules and procedures.”

Gbongbo assured that NOA would take the campaign to the grassroots, collaborating with the lawmaker to achieve the desired impact.

Meanwhile, part of the activities at the sensitisation programme included the empowerment of sixty (60) women from Chanchaga Federal Constituency by the lawmaker.
