No protest over death of our staff, Salamatu — Lokoja hospital

The Management of the Federal Teaching Hospital Lokoja has said there was no protest over the death of a staff Mrs Salamatu Aliu rather it was a procession by the staff in respect of the deceased.

The Public Relations Officer of the Hospital, Mallam Abdullahi Abubakar made this known on Sunday through a press statement issued on the death of one of their female staff, Salamatu Aliu.

According to him, the management of the hospital is grieved by the death of a member of staff Salamatu Aliu who until her death was a hard-working and dutiful staff it has been a known tradition, the attendants had a solemn procession as a way of last rite for the deceased staff.

He pointed out that it came to the Management and the entire Hospital staff as a rude shock when the solemn procession was tagged as a protest.

“At a time when members of staff and the family of the deceased are mourning, the Management expects media personnel to always do proper scrutiny and balanced reporting as opposed to sensationalizing of falsehood in the name of reportage

” While the Management is taking necessary legal steps to address the false publication aimed at inciting the public against the institution and members of staff of the Hospital, it remains committed to sustaining its goal to deliver effective and efficient health care service to the society.

Similarly, the Medical and Health Worker’s Union of Nigeria Kogi state chapter has said that the information regarding the neglect of the Health attendants by other categories of Health Workers is totally false and calculated attempt to bring the efforts of Doctors, Nurses and all other Health Workers within the Hospital to total disrepute.

The Chairman of the union, Comrade Umoche John, and the Public Relations Officer, Comrade Salawu George in a joint press statement issued on Sunday said the body disclaimed the publication of falsehood making rounds in the media space, as there was no form of protest by the Health attendants arm of Medical and Health Workers Union of Nigeria branch rather a peaceful procession in respect of the deceased staff Mrs. Salamatu Aliu, who until her death was a dedicated and committed staff of the hospital.
