No plan to impeach our speaker ―Kogi assembly

Published by

THE crisis in the Kogi state house of assembly took a new turn on Wednesday as the house said there was no plan to impeach the speaker, Matthew Kolawole.

The chairman of the house committee on information, Sunday Shigaba, said that the members of the house had never planned or met to over any purported impeachment, saying Kolawole remained the speaker of the assembly.

The purported impeachment plan said to be in connection with the alleged N200 million bribe scandal, became heightened when the member representing Lokoja II state constituency, Idris Ndako’s defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC) to pave way for his emergence as the new speaker.

But Shigaba while debunking the impeachment claim said, “To the best of our knowledge, we have not been lobbied by anybody. No member of the assembly claims knowledge of lobbying from the executive as it is stated to be wanting to change the leadership of the house from Prince Mathew Kolawole to Honourable Idris Ndako”.

This is coming as the PDP in Lokoja described the defection of Ndako as a selfish move to enable him return to the assembly in 2019 against the zoning arrangement agreed by the stakeholders.

The party is a statement by, chairman Abu Usman and secretary, Sunday Obed, said the lawmaker dumped the PDP because the party was not ready to give him the ticket for election in 2019.

The party said, ” Since the signed communiqué by three wards, of Lokoja 11, Constituency endorsing the zoning of the next House of Assembly seat to Kupa south was signed and adopted, the intent of Hon Idris Ndako for a second time, became manifest, thus, he had to accept the offers made to him by the powers that be to cross carpet.

“For the avoidance of doubt, Hon Idris Ndako, was a product of zoning, and his emergence as assembly lawmaker became possible by virtue of people of strong character keeping to their integrity and agreement.

“We therefore wish to make it abundantly clear that his defection for selfish motive is good riddance to bad rubbish and we are happy he has offloaded himself in good time. We are now more comfortable that he has exited himself to be joined with his likes.

For us in Lokoja 11, Constituency of Lokoja PDP. We’re not perturbed by this defection that has no electoral value of any iota of serious consequence. If the said popularity of Hon Idris Ndako is certain as is been insinuated in some quarters, we would have expected him to test his popularity, remain within the party that gave him his present platform of relevance, and see if he can pick the party’s ticket”.

The party however called on its members to remain supportive as the party was now more united and focused to win elections in the state.
