No evidence of APC congress in Imo ― PDP

Published by

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Imo State chapter, has tackled the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), for its failure to conduct ward congresses across the 27 local government areas and the 305 political wards in the state, despite its claims of parading large membership.

The PDP leadership said that there was no evidence of any Congresses by APC, adding that Imo people either stayed away at home, resting or went about their legitimate businesses, without concern for the supposed APC Congresses.

In a statement issued on Sunday by the State Publicity Secretary of the party, Ogubundu Nwadike, the party recalled that the APC made so much media noise about the Congresses holding as scheduled, even when there were contrary reports of the courts ordering the suspension of the Congresses in Imo State.

Ogubundu said that the PDP was not surprised that “the good people of Imo State, without prodding by the opposition, maintained political distancing from the evidently virused APC, which has been deeply enmeshed in crisis over the past recent years, with intractable internal crisis that has defied all efforts at arbitration and reconciliation”.

“The party underscores and appreciates the tacit wise decision by Imo people to jettison the rancorous party, as nobody really wants to willingly associate with such a grossly fragmented and factionalised political party.

“The party also commends and applauds the good people of Imo State for dissociating and distancing themselves from the failed conflict-prone Saturday 31st July Congresses of the All Progressives Congress”, the statement read.

The PDP observed that contrary to enormous media hypes about the Congresses and claims by the party of very large membership, the Congresses witnessed a very abysmally low turnout, thereby confirming earlier reports by the PDP that during the recently concluded membership registration and revalidation exercise by the APC.

He said: “Imo people utterly rejected the party in total disarray, by refusing to register or revalidate their membership with the anti-people party”.

PDP, according to the statement, equally reported measures by APC to force traditional rulers and presidents-general of town unions to fill APC registers with fake names or get sanctioned and removed from office.

The party thanked Imo people for their display of wisdom and courage in taking the right decision and making the right choice of keeping the APC at arm’s length.

It urged the people to continue to support the PDP, as it reassured Ndimo that it would never “deceive or disappoint them, but continue to stand by them and keep alive the vision of rebuilding Imo State and empowering Imo people away from the ruins of the state and the people by the APC that has woefully failed to deliver good leadership and good governance to the state”.
