No critical security threat in Niger — Police

Published by

Niger State Police Command has responded to misinformation spreading over some social media indicating that multiple IEDs discovered posed a critical security threat in the State, adding that it is untrue and pure misinformation.

The Command’s Police Public Relations Officer SP Wasiu Abiodun stated this in a press statement issued and made available to Journalists on Tuesday in Minna, highlighting that the Command states with all sense of responsibility that the IEDs recently destroyed by the Police Command in the interest of public safety, were the improvised materials recovered within the year 2021 and 2022 during joint counter-insurgency operations in the forest in Shiroro Local Government Area of the State.

The statement noted that, therefore, the prolonged keeping of these materials poses a danger to lives and property around, hence the reason for the immediate destruction as undertaken by the Command.

According to Abiodun, “Contrary to the assertion in the false publication, there is no critical threat of any kind targeted to any public area or infrastructure in Niger State to cause fear and widespread instability, as this is seen as a calculated attempt to cause panic and unnecessary fear in the public domain”.

Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, Niger State Command CP Shawulu Ebenezer Danmamman, has assured Nigerlites, residents, and members of the public that the destruction was carried out as part of the proactive measures for public safety and that the good people of the State should continue with their lawful businesses without fear of any threat, as the Police and sisters’ security agencies are committed and dedicated to the service of protection of lives and properties within the State and beyond.
