New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) has expressed sympathy with the victims and people of Rivers State following the deadly tanker explosion at Eleme Road in Port Harcourt, Rivers.
The party in a statement by its national publicity Secretary, Ladipo Johnson, said the scale of devastation by the incident remained a nightmare to behold and urged men and women of goodwill to rise in support of the victims through donations of material items and other necessary support.
The party also expressed grief over the havoc caused by the inferno at Oshin in Abeokuta, Ogun State, which it described as an avoidable tragedy. It noted that both the Eleme and Oshin explosions might have been caused by negligence and called for greater attention to safety measures, especially in public places.
“It is a major disaster and we duly express our grief and sympathy with the victims, their families, the people, and the government of Rivers State. We must emphasise the need for greater safety among the populace because such fire incidents are clearly avoidable.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with each and every individual impacted by this tragedy just as we call on all men and women of goodwill to rise in support of the victims,” the statement read in part.
