Nnamdi Kanu’s sureties revealed, as ex-minister, Chidoka, drives him out of Kuje prison

Nnamdi Kanu, pro-Biafra agitator and leader of Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), regained his freedom from Kuje Prison on Friday, after meeting his bail condition.

He was seen being driven out of the detention facility in a Sporting Utility Vehicle (SUV) by former Aviation Minister, Mr Osita Chidoka.

Chidoka, in company of others like Senator Abaribe and a Jewish leader who stood surety for Kanu, had arrived the court earlier on Friday, to sign off all bail conditions already met, including a Jewish Rabbi standing as a surety.

Kanu was arrested and taken into custody on October, 2015, following allegations of treasonable felony charge against him by the Federal Government.

Nnamdi Kanu, Senator Eyinnaya Abaribe and the Jewish leader, Immanuel Shalom, who bailed Kanu on Friday.
Nnamdi Kanu and Senator Eyinnaya Abaribe after his release from Kuje prison, on Friday.

After his arrest, he was detained by the State Security Service (SSS), but in a Federal High Court ruling in January 2016, the judge ordered that Kanu should be remanded at Kuje Prison where he had been held until Friday.

Kanu, in prison custody filed several applications for bail, but were all refused by different judges, until Wednesday, when he was granted bail by Justice Binta Nyako.

Ifeanyi Ejiofor, had earlier on Friday, said Kanu had fulfilled all the bail conditions.

Kanu’s lawyer though didn’t reveal the identity of those who stood as sureties for his client, but it has been reliably gathered that the Chairman of the Senate’s South East Caucus, Eyinnaya Abaribe stood in for Kanu.

Others are a Jewish priest, Immanuel Shalom, and an Abuja-based resident, Tochukwu Uchendu.
