Nnamdi Kanu’s detention crippling South-East economy — Archbishop Ugorji

The President of the Catholic Bishops Conference of Nigeria (CACN) Archbishop Luciuse Ewejuru Ugorji has blamed the crippling of the economy of the South East to the continued detention of the IPOB leader Mazi Nnamdi Kanu by the Federal Government of Nigeria.

The prelate said this Wednesday at the Episcopal Ordination of Very Rev. Msgr. Thomas Ifeanyichukwu Obiatuegwu as the Auxilary Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Orlu held at the Holy Trinity Cathedral Orlu, Imo State.

He vehemently condemned insecurity due to the continued sit-at-home order in the South East which according to him has subjected people to staying indoors every Monday of every week for fear of losing their lives

He said: “in the South East, insecurity have worsen and unfortunately the sit-at-home have continued to paralysed economy of the zone”

The Archbishop of Owerri Catholic Archdiocese lamented that every Monday businessmen in the zone lose huge amounts of money for the sake of insecurity.

Ugorji appealed to President Almade Tinubu’s led government to explore the civil remedy in the release of Nnadi Kanu to restore the social and economic situation in the zone

Speaking at the event Governor Hope Uzodimma described the ordination of Monsignor Thomas Ifeanyichukwu Obiatuegwu as the Auxiliary Bishop of Orlu Catholic Diocese as a great significance to him because it is taking place during my tenure as the Governor of Imo State.

While congratulating the Bishop for his elevation to this revered position, which in the church means additional responsibilities expressed optimism that he is equal to the task ahead adding that his ordination is a fulfillment of God’s purpose for his life.

Uzodimma said that he is proud that the Catholic Church is leading the way in the moral rearmament of society, and expressed wonder about where Nigerian children would have wandered into if the church was not there to provide guidance and directions.

Governor Uzodimma assured his administration’s continued partnership with the church on ways to bring succor and alleviate the suffering of our people.

He said: ” I am more than committed to ensuring that Imo residents are not left alone in this journey of economic recovery”.

In his words of appreciation, the newly ordained Auxilary Bishop Very Rev Thomas Ifeanyichukwu Obiatuegwu expressed joy for the successful ordination and all who support the ordination.

He assured to serve with ultimate fear of God, dedication and to learn from those above him to move the Diocese forward.
