Nnamdi Kanu saga: Match word with action on political solution, South-East monarchs, bishops tell Malami

TRADITIONAL and religious leaders of from the South-East, on Sunday, tasked the Minister of Justice and Attorney General of the Federation, Mr Abubakar Malami (SAN) to follow his statement with action on the political option to the trial of the leader of the outlawed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu.

In a statement issued on Sunday and signed by Most Reverend Anthony Obinna; Igwe Nnaemeka Achebe and Most Reverend (Dr) Chibuzo Raphael Opoko, commending IPOB for embracing peace in the conduct of governorship election in Anambra State, the leaders said the minister only echoed the popular view of other well-meaning persons and groups on political solution to the Kanu issue.

“The joint body acknowledges the statement by the Attorney-General and Minister of Justice, Mr Abubakar Malami (SAN), in which he affirmed that the Federal Government was open to a political solution to Mazi Nnamdi Kanu’s case.

“This statement is in line with the proposal earlier made by this Joint Body and by other well-meaning persons and groups in Nigeria.

“This Body therefore eagerly awaits the concrete steps that would be taken in this regard,” the statement read.

However, the leaders expressed their displeasure over “the persistent complaints by the IPOB legal team about the difficulties it encounters in dealing with the Department of State Services (DSS) and, especially, the sad events which occurred during Mazi Nnamdi Kanu’s appearance in court last Wednesday, November 10.”
