NLC to picket IBEDC, PIPLL over failure to recall sacked staff

The Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC), Oyo state chapter has threatened to picket Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC) and PIPLL if it fails to comply with the Federal Government directives on the reinstatement of its staff that were unjustly laid off.

The union, in a statement made available to the newsmen in Ibadan on Thursday, reminded the IBEDC and PIPLL that the seven-day ultimatum issued by the Federal Government through the Ministry of Labour for the recall of unlawfully sacked IBEDC workers has elapsed.

The statement read in part, ‘We are aware that a crucial meeting is scheduled to hold tomorrow 6 March, 2025, between IBEDC and PIPIL.

“However, let it be clearly stated that any deviation from the agreement reached between the Federal Government, Oyo State NIL.C, IBEDC, and PIPLL will be met with an immediate and decisive response.

“In the event of non-compliance, the Oyo State NLC will commence the picketing of all IBEDC offices across the state, effective Monday, March 10, 2025.

“We will not tolerate any form of injustice against workers, and we are committed to ensuring that their rights are upheld.

“We urge IBEDC and PIPLL to act in good faith and honor the agreement to prevent any industrial action that may disrupt operations.”
