RENOWNED Nigerian filmmaker Niyi Akinmolayan has emphasized the vast economic potential of Nollywood, envisioning a future where the industry could birth an African equivalent of Disney. Speaking in a recent discussion, Akinmolayan underscored the need for strategic investment and innovation to propel Nigeria’s entertainment sector to global prominence.
As the founder of Anthill Studios, a leading production company, Akinmolayan has been at the forefront of transformative storytelling in Nollywood. He pointed to projects like Temi and the LabaLaba Band, an animated film that has gained traction, as examples of how the industry can diversify beyond traditional narratives.
“We need to start thinking beyond just box office numbers. Nollywood has the potential to create an entertainment empire that rivals global giants. But to achieve this, we need strong backing from brands, parents, and stakeholders who believe in the power of storytelling,” he said.
