NOT less than 1,729 rice and maize farmers have benefited from agricultural implements given to them by the Nigeria Incentive-Based Risk-Sharing System for Agricultural Lending (NIRSAL).
The distribution was made under the Central Bank of Nigeria’s (CBN) Anchor Borrowers’ Programme (ABP), for the 2018/2019 dry season farming.

Speaking during the flag-off ceremony, the Farmer Representative of HABUCOM Farmers Group, Mr Rabiu Haruna, confirmed that 1,195 farmers under the group have received 2,170 petrol water pumps, which will help them irrigate their farms during the dry season.
The rice and maize farmers of HABUCOM alongside Rice Resources Cooperative also received 123 tonnes of seeds, 6,152 litres of crop protection chemicals, 769 tonnes of fertilizers and 3,076 units of knapsack sprayers.
According to the President, Rice Resources Cooperative, Alhaji Ahmed Shehu, “with the certified improved seeds given to farmers by NIRSAL, we are expecting a bumper harvest of about 120 bags of rice from every two hectares cultivated.”
He also expressed delight at the new water pumps received by the cooperative, which will be used for farm irrigation, enabling the farmers to cultivate rice throughout the year.
