Nintendo has officially announced that the highly anticipated Switch 2 console will be released on 5 June, ending months of speculation about the successor to one of the best-selling gaming systems in history.
The announcement, made on Wednesday during a Nintendo Direct online presentation watched by over a million viewers, provided further details about the console’s hardware and confirmed that it would launch alongside Mario Kart World, a new entry in the company’s most famous franchise. Other major titles set to be available for the Switch 2 include Elden Ring and Street Fighter 6.
The new device is expected to deliver improved graphics and audio, as well as a chat button enabling players to communicate during gameplay.
Pricing will vary by market, with the UK retail price set at £395 for the console alone and £429 when bundled with Mario Kart World. Nintendo president Shuntaro Furukawa described the new console as “a leap forward,” marking eight years since the original Switch first hit the market.

Nintendo also unveiled Donkey Kong Bananza, a new platforming adventure, and Kirby Air Riders, a sequel to the beloved 2005 game, both set to arrive later this year.
In addition, Nintendo confirmed that existing Switch games labeled as “compatible” will be playable on Switch 2, while some titles will receive dedicated Switch 2 editions featuring upgraded graphics and gameplay.
Pricing for digital versions of Mario Kart World and Donkey Kong Bananza on the Nintendo Store is set at £66.99 and £58.99, respectively, while physical copies will cost £8 more.
