NIMN to release list of accredited members in June 2017

In  a bid to effectively regulate the practice of marketing in the country, the National  Institute of Marketing of Nigeria (NIMN) has announced plans to release a full list of marketing practitioners,   accredited by the institute to practise marketing in the country, by the second quarter of next year.

The list, according to the institute’s new president and chairman of council, Mr. Tony Agenmonmen, would  serve as a guide for  stakeholders, especially companies, desirous of engaging  practitioners from the industry.

Agenmonmen, who was elected  on the 18th of November, this year, expressed the determination of the institute to ensure that only qualified marketing practitioners are involved in the practice of marketing in the country, as from next year.

As part of the strategies towards achieving that, he added, the institute would make available such membership  list to multi-nationals and others, who engage the services of marketing practitioners in their establishments, to enable them know the status of those marketing  personnel, working in their establishments.

“We believe no responsible company would go through such list and discover that its marketing personnel are not there and would not ask questions.

“It is not about witch-hunting. It is about ensuring that things are done the way they should be done. There is no profession that would allow every Tom, Dick and Harry to practise  without being accredited by the relevant regulatory body in such profession. So what we are asking for now is not new.

“Our intention is to follow the law to the letter as far as the issue of illegal marketing practice is concerned. The simple truth is that if you are practising marketing, without being certified or accredited by the institute, you are doing it illegally, and we intend to follow the rules to the letter,” he argued.

While lauding his predecessors for ensuring the much-needed peace in the industry, the new president however called on all stakeholders to support the council in its task at building a virile marketing institute.

The new NIMN boss disclosed that the institute would soon avail its members of some training opportunities as a way of deepening their knowledge about the practice, while at the same time honing their marketing skills.
