Nigeria’s success depends on quality service delivery by civil servants — Walson-Jack

The Head of the Civil Service of the Federation Mrs. Didi Walson-Jack has underscored the critical role of workers in public service in sustainable development of the nation, emphasising the need for efficiency and quality service delivery.

Walson-Jack who was represented by the Permanent Secretary, Common Services Office, Mr. Raymond Omachi, spoke on Wednesday in Abuja, while declaring open 2024 Capacity Building, with the theme: “Strengthening Public Service through Effective and Inclusive Stakeholder Engagement,” for stakeholders and top officials of the Office of the Head of Civil Service of Federation.

She maintained that as policy implementers, it was the collective responsibility of all workers in public service to ensure effective, efficient, and responsive service delivery to the needs and aspirations of the citizens.

“Today we gather to engage in a crucial conversation about the future of the public service. The success of our nation depends on the ability of our institutions to deliver quality services to our people.

“As we navigate the complexity of the modern governance, it is clear that we must work together to address the challenges that lie ahead. We must foster a culture of collaboration, transparency, and accountability within our public institutions.

“In this regard, I want to acknowledge the crucial role of members of the National Assembly, more importantly the House of Representatives, in shaping our nation’s policies and laws.

“Their contributions to the development of our country are invaluable, and we look forward to continuing partnerships with them,” she stated.

The Head of Service emphasised the need to prioritize the needs of the citizens and to ensure that public institutions are equipped and positioned to deliver quality services efficiently and effectively.

Walson-Jack highlighted the imperative of the capacity building of workers, saying government would continue to invest in the development of public service by providing them with the skills and knowledge that is necessary to excel in their role.

“As you are aware, government faces complex and interdependent challenges, requiring public servants and institutions to continuously adapt, learn, and respond appropriately to those challenges.

“Capacity building empowers individuals, groups, organizations, and institutions to implement solutions and drive positive change.

“Capacity building is an ongoing process rather than an end which must be supported by appropriating enough required funds,” she stated.
