Presidential aspirant and former governor of Kano State, Rabiu Musa Kwankaso has said Nigerians are hungry and angry at the ruling party over poor governance.
He said Nigerians will do what the politicians did to the military in 1999 when the People’s Democratic Party was formed to oust the military from politics over poor management of the nation.
According to him, the PDP as a party, post-military rule, began to suffer internal shocks which made members begin to reassess their alliance in the party and the birth of the All Progressive Congress (APC), was considered an option for the progressives to leverage and better Nigeria.
Kwankawo who said this at his Abuja home while addressing the media pointed out that Nigerians are quiet but determined to change the ruling party and free themselves of these administrative malady brought upon them by the APC.
He said the main opposition People’s Democratic Party (PDP) was not an option for Nigerian people because they have seen her weakness in terms of harnessing national resources for her growth and development..
“The mission now is to kick out the first hour to kick out the military. Now the mission now is to kick you out the two parties that we have, the PDP and APC, everybody knows, including your good self here, that the system is not working. And therefore there has to be an alternative.
“Election of 2023 is between those who want the status quo to continue, and those who want to change the status quo to change and that is how the election will be in 2023.
“Because all of them will say they will build on the good things they are doing either in PDP or in APC. What we are saying is that their best is not good enough for Nigerians.
“I think that is why we have a new Nigeria, and everybody wants a new Nigeria. The election will be between those who believe in new Nigeria, not the one that we have today who wants the status quo.
“When people will say oh, let them go and do it. We are not politicians. Yes, you are not politicians. But you have to live with the consequences of bad governance.
Kwankwaso said the security situation in the country called for deep introspection by the Nigerian government.
His words: “I am sure every military man and woman and other security agencies must be very worried. On one hand, on the other hand, one has to be very surprised at what is actually happening in this country. What we see happening is very sad those of us who reside here in Abuja and are not traveling out.
“They find it very difficult to understand the gravity of the situation in terms of insecurity. Every one of us have heard what happened recently on our train from here to Kaduna.
“It was the only hope that Nigerians were having to go to Kaduna from here, and of course, he’s not only going to Kaduna, but even Kano, Sokoto, Maiduguri and other places will also come to Kaduna and take the train because people believe that that is that zone is the epicenter of this insecurity.
Now, many people are advised that one day that rain will be attacked. Unfortunately, nothing was been done. And that train was attacked. people were killed. Not only people were killed, we have seen a situation where so many people are now in the hands of this bandits or terrorists.
“Only God knows what they are experiencing now. But certainly, we know it has to be something very horrible and we have people talking about the number of the dead, people who are maimed and so on and so forth.
“And people are not talking of how to rescue those people that are in the hands of the bandits. I believe that the government should be more serious about security.
“As a former Minister of Defense, I never thought that insecurity would go this low in this country within a short period of time.
“I always sit down to ask myself, how did we find ourselves in this mess? What actually happened? Kwankwaso said.
