Looking at the turnout of citizens in the just-concluded gubernatorial and house of assembly elections, one will conclude that citizens have low or no interest in the growth of our dear country Nigeria. The turnout of citizens in some states signifies hatred for political development in the country.
It is important to note that one of the factors that promote election rigging is citizens’ inability to collect their voter cards at the said time, day and venue thereby, paving ways for politicians and their cohorts to make use of this uncollected PVCs for their selfish interest.
Citizens have to be discouraged in engaging in political apathy. This is one of the reasons incapable, greedy leaders with no direction emerge as winners. It’s disheartening that the gospel that speaks of political participation has been spread before now and citizens deliberately pay deaf hears to it.
The cost of not engaging in your country’s election processes is very grevious. That ignorant action is capable of destroying your future as a citizen.
Based on my observation, citizens no longer trust the organisers of these elections. There have been so many irregularities and the question as to whether our votes will count comes with a negative response.
What do we do to ensure that citizens partake fully in coming elections? Should we make use of machines in replacement of ballot boxes and robots in replacement of electoral officers? Just may be, the people can then trust election organisers and partake in election processes.
