Nigerians react to checking of jamb results via SMS

Published by

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), on Saturday, officially released the 2019 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).

The Board Registrar, Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, who announced the results in Abuja said that candidates should not check their results from Computer Based Test (CBT) centres but use the shortcode of 55019 to check on their phones.

Meanwhile, Nigerians have reacted to the development made the examination body.

While reacting to a Facebook post made by Tribune Online, a Facebook user,  Akinbampe Akinkunmi Hasan, said the process is a welcome idea but it will inhibit the CBT centres and computer operators from making their own sales.

“ it is a welcome idea but checking of result this way will kill business for some people, which is a bad idea,” Hasan said.

Another Facebook user,  Damilare James Fasasi urged the Federal Government to investigate the agreement between Jamb and the network providers because it is just as if the examination body is trying to create a way of making money for the service providers.

“FG needs to investigate the agreement between JAMB and service provider because why must a student pass through service provider again to check the result when he/she will eventually have to print it again at the end of the day.

“1.8 million people sat for the exam and each will averagely send the message twice because of network congestion which will amount to a lot of money for these network providers.

“Why can’t jamb ask students to text PRINT to 55019 to get the hard copy printed?” he queried

However, apart from condemning the system and tagging it as a means of making money for the network providers, some people that also commented lament how they’ve sent the text message to the said digit with no response.

According to Olusanjo Ojekanmi, “I sent RESULT to the number but no response.”

Olatunji Awobest Awofesobi said, “A lot of the candidates are still sending the word result to that code announced but still yet to get any reply till now.
