Nigerians in diaspora charged on innovation, unity

Liaison Officer, Diaspora Student Affairs Office of the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Student Engagement, Opeoluwa Ojekemi, has advised Nigerian students in the diaspora on commitment towards working for a future where education, innovation, and unity drive Nigeria to greater heights.

Ojekemi also urged the students to commit to nation-building, fostering collaboration, tolerance, and understanding to tackle the challenges that hinder the country’s progress.

He said this in a statement signed and made available to Tribune Online on Tuesday in celebration of the 64th anniversary of Nigeria’s independence.

According to him, “excellence in academics, technology, innovation, and entrepreneurship by the diaspora students will continue to inspire and uplift the country on the global stage.

Ojekemi noted that the Nigerian students’ role is pivotal in shaping Nigeria’s destiny, adding that education is the key to unlocking the potential of the country.

“Today, we celebrate 64 years of independence, a momentous occasion that reminds us of the strength, resilience, and unity that have carried us through our journey as a nation. As we look back at our history, we recognise the sacrifices of our founding fathers, who fought for a sovereign nation free from the chains of colonialism. Their legacy lives on, not just in the Nigeria they envisioned but in the aspirations of every Nigerian who dares to dream of a brighter tomorrow.

“To Nigerian students at home and abroad, you are the embodiment of this vision. As the future leaders of this great nation, your role is pivotal in shaping Nigeria’s destiny. Education is the key to unlocking the potential of our nation, and your commitment to academic and personal growth is a testament to the bright future we all desire. You carry the hope of a better Nigeria in your hearts, and your excellence in academics, technology, innovation, and entrepreneurship continues to inspire and uplift our country on the global stage.

“However, I understand the challenges many of you face: economic constraints, social pressures, and navigating foreign systems while representing Nigeria abroad. But let us not be discouraged. Remember, our strength lies in unity, resilience, and an unyielding belief in the power of education to transform not only our lives but the future of Nigeria.

“As we celebrate this Independence Day, let us renew our commitment to nation-building. Let us foster a spirit of collaboration, tolerance, and understanding so that together we can tackle the challenges that hinder our progress. Whether you are in Nigeria or the diaspora, remember that your contributions matter. Every innovation, every academic milestone, and every step forward is a step towards the Nigeria we all dream of, a nation where justice, equity, and opportunity thrive.

“To my fellow Nigerian students in the diaspora, I salute your efforts and achievements. You are true ambassadors of our beloved country. Despite the challenges, you continue to represent Nigeria with dignity and excellence. As we work together to address the issues affecting Nigerian students worldwide, rest assured that our administration is committed to supporting your academic and professional aspirations.

“On this day, as we raise our flag high, let us not only celebrate our past but also commit to working for a future where education, innovation, and unity drive Nigeria to greater heights.”
