The Registrar of the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB), Professor Is-haq Oloyode, highlighted the significance of collaboration and contribution among universities in Nigeria towards achieving enhanced academic goals.
He emphasised this point during the maiden edition of the Consortium Conference of Universities in Kwara State (KU8).
This viewpoint was echoed by various speakers including the Executive Secretary of the National University Commission, Mr. Chris Maiyaki (represented by Dr. Noel Saliu), Professor Musbau Akanji, His Majesty, the Ooni of Ife, Dr. Adeyeye Enitan (represented by the Vice-Chancellor of Ojaja University), and Alhaji Jani Ibrahim, the Chairman of LUBCON Oil.
The conference revolved around the collaboration of eight universities in Kwara State, known as KU8: Kwara State University, Al-Hikmah University, Landmark University, Ojaja University (formerly Crown-Hill University), Summit University, Ahman Pategi University, and Thomas Adewumi University.
Professor Oloyede stressed that the collective effort of these universities is a crucial step for the universities in Kwara State to achieve exceptional accomplishments that would yield significant outputs.
He stated, “If you want to go fast, go alone. But if you want to go far, go together. The idea of synergy and partnership is definitely in sync with the visions of the proprietors to advance scholarship and promote development. It is the right way to go, and I believe this initiative will have a multiplier effect on other universities in other states and places.”
Alhaji Jani Ibrahim noted that KU8 should generate ideas that promote university innovation and industry collaboration to contribute to Nigeria’s economic recovery and bring universities into the spotlight.
Professor Akanji emphasized that the collaboration of KU8 would create funding opportunities, enhance communication, and uplift younger members through the utilisation of individual strengths.
Dr Noel Saliu, representing the Executive Secretary of the National University Commission, Chris Maiyaki, reiterated that if managed effectively, KU8 could enhance the global reputation of Nigeria’s universities.
According to Dr Adeyeye Enitan, the Ooni of Ife, “Gone were the days of solo efforts, individuality and unhealthy competitions. The time has come to adopt a system approach in which all parts are interrelated, interconnected, and interdependent with the input of one being the output of the other and vice-versa.”
