A Nigerian tech lawyer, Kehinde Ojadamola Takuro has been selected for the prestigious Legal Fellowship at the Wikimedia Foundation, the non-profit organization behind Wikipedia, the world’s largest free online encyclopedia. The Wikimedia Legal Fellowship is a fellowship program that offers the opportunity to contribute to some of the most pressing technology law issues. Fellows are selected based on their demonstrated interest in internet law, regulatory compliance, data governance, and intellectual property. The projects legal fellows work on contribute to the organization’s mission to ensure global access to free knowledge while navigating evolving legal frameworks.
Before the fellowship, Takuro completed a Master of Laws degree program at Harvard Law School, where she was active in technology and entrepreneurship-related initiatives. She received the Dean’s Award for Community Leadership. “I’m honored to be selected for the fellowship at a time when global discussions around technology policies are becoming increasingly urgent,” said Takuro. “This fellowship provides an opportunity to engage with complex legal and policy issues while contributing to a technology platform that millions around the world rely on for knowledge.”
The Legal Fellowship places Takuro among a small cohort of professionals working on advancing open access and protecting user rights across jurisdictions. In addition to her work at Wikimedia, Takuro has contributed to policy research on financial technology regulation and cybersecurity. Her experience includes cross-jurisdictional advisory roles and research into data security regulatory frameworks.
The Wikimedia Foundation, based in California, United States is one of the most influential nonprofit technology organizations in the world. Its legal team plays a key role in shaping the organization’s global strategy on freedom of expression, privacy rights, and intellectual property across the Wikimedia projects.
Takuro’s selection for the legal fellowship adds another source of pride for Nigeria, particularly given her contributions to technology law and policy. As digital governance becomes a core issue in global law and development, her work reflects a broader trend of African lawyers shaping regulatory conversations beyond their home jurisdictions.
