NIGERIAN students of Yoruba descent studying at the Islamic University of Madinah have commended the Asiwaju Adinni of Ibadanland, Alhaji Mutiulah Oladejo, for his “outstanding” financial support and “profound” interest in their general wellbeing in Saudi Arabia.
The students gave the commendation at a ceremony held in Madinah where their association presented Oladejo with an award in recognition of his contributions to the progress of their academic careers in the Middle East country.
At the ceremony attended by about 300 members of the association who included PhD students, the president of the body, Dr Najeemdeen Agboluaje, described the honoree as an exemplary Muslim whose philanthropic activities should be a source of inspiration to other well-to-do Muslims.
In a remark, Alhaji Oladejo expressed delight, saying he viewed the award as an encouragement to do more for Islam, members of the ummah and humanity.
The ceremony was also attended by Oladejo’s wife, Alhaja Sofiyat, and their daughter, Alhaja Ikmot, as well as the Oyo State coordinator of the National Council of Muslim Youth Organisations (NACOMYO), Alhaji Dawood Afolabi, and managing director of Ameer Ataquwa Hajj and Umurah Services, Alhaji Muritala Atoyebi.
Before the honour in Saudi Arabia, Alhaji Oladejo had, back in Ibadan, Oyo State, organised an empowerment programme where he distributed tools to no fewer than 71 beneficiaries who were mostly artisans.
He said the programme was designed to mark the birthday of his wife, Alhaja Sofiyat Oladejo, the Iyalaje Adinni of Isebo, Ibadan.
