Nigerian researcher, Adewunmi Akingbola, recognised by Forbes for works in European science, healthcare

In a momentous recognition of Nigerian excellence on the global stage, Adewunmi Akingbola, an infectious diseases epidemiologist and founder of HealthDrive Nigeria, has been named among the 2025 Forbes Europe 30 Under 30 list.

Dr Akingbola was celebrated for his outstanding contributions to public health, particularly in the area of hepatitis research, prevention and control. With several peer-reviewed publications in leading international journals such as BMC and Taylor & Francis, Dr Akingbola has carved a name for himself as a leading voice among experts.

In 2021, he received the prestigious Princess Diana Award for his pioneering work through HealthDrive Nigeria, an initiative based in South West Nigeria dedicated to raising awareness, testing, and vaccinating individuals against Hepatitis B. His research efforts at Cambridge have earned accolades at renowned academic platforms including the Cambridge Infectious Diseases Annual Symposium and the Cambridge Public Health Conference, where he was awarded the 2024 Early Career Researchers Prize.

Speaking at a recent event, Akingbola reaffirmed his commitment to expanding access to health services and advancing disease prevention strategies, especially across underserved communities in Africa.

Reacting to the Forbes honour, many in Nigeria’s academic and public health communities have praised Akingbola’s achievement as a testament to the growing global impact of Nigerian researchers and innovators.
