DETERMINED to ensure smooth elections, the Edo State branch of the Nigerian Red Cross Society has concluded training on Emergency First Aid Team (EFAT).
The training had in attendance officers of the Nigerian Army, the Nigerian Police, the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps, Nigerian Police, Nigerian Immigration Service, National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) and Red Cross volunteers.
Speaking at the opening ceremony yesterday in Benin, the Edo state Chairman of the Nigerian Red Cross Society, Mr Festus Alenkhe said the training exercise was to prepare the participants to respond to any medical distress call before, during and after the elections which will commence on Saturday, February 23.
Alenkhe said that 300 Red Cross volunteers will be deployed to all parts of the state to respond to any accident and emergency situation that will arise.
Alenkhe disclosed that First Aid posts have been created by the Red Cross in some strategic places in Edo State.

He commended the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent (IFRC) and the National Red Cross for their support in setting up the Emergency First Aid Team (EFAT).
Alenkhe urged participants at the training to ensure that the knowledge acquired during the training exercise is put to use. (SOUND).
The training program later moved to Sapele Road by M.M. Way in Benin City for a simulation exercise.
