The Nigerian Red Cross Society, Adamawa Branch, on Wednesday, in Yola, said it had built 30 houses for returnee Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in Hong Local Government Area of the state.
Mr Muhammed Bello, Adamawa Secretary of the Society, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that the Red Cross also built six blocks of latrine toilets and five hand pump boreholes.
Bello said the gesture was part of its humanitarian services to support the returnee communities affected by Boko Haram insurgency to improve their living standard.
He added that the society had also distributed 50 sewing machines to the affected communities in Hong, Gombi and Michika Local Government Areas of the state.
“So far, the state branch of the Nigeria Red Cross had built 30 houses for returnee IDPs in Adamawa State.
“We distributed 50 sewing machines, provided six blocks of latrine toilets and five hand pump boreholes to assist the returnees recover from the effect of the insurgency,’’ Bello said.
He identified inadequate funding and lack of incentive to staff as among the constraints affecting effective service delivery of the organisation.
Bello thanked the International Committee for Red Cross for assisting the local organisation in discharging its duties and appealed to government to assist the organisation.
