Nigerian Navy empowers Delta youth with career initiative

The Forward Operating Base (FOB) Escravos of the Nigerian Navy has organised a career talk for young people in its host communities in Warri South-West Local Government Area of Delta State.

Navy Captain Ikenna Okoloagu, the Commanding Officer of FOB Escravos, stated on Wednesday that the initiative aimed to steer youths away from illegal activities and towards productive ventures.

The programme, held in Madangho Community, also included medical and educational outreach initiatives.

Addressing journalists at the event, Okoloagu explained that the Base introduced these initiatives as a gesture of appreciation to the host communities.

He added that the programme aligned with the strategic directives of the Chief of Naval Staff (CNS), Vice Admiral Emmanuel Ogalla, and the operational objectives of Operation Delta Sanity II.

“FOB Escravos has enjoyed a strong relationship with its host communities over the years, and we are committed to sustaining this unity,” Okoloagu said.

He noted that the career talk, conducted in collaboration with Kedahan Services Limited Training School, focused on various career and business opportunities.

“This initiative broadens young people’s horizons, steers them away from crime, and contributes to national development,” he said.

Okoloagu expressed hope that these efforts would strengthen ties between the Nigerian Navy and the communities while helping to curb illegal activities in the maritime sector.

“It is also expected to support efforts to boost crude oil production, thereby enhancing Nigeria’s economic prosperity,” he added.

The medical outreach included the distribution of treated mosquito nets, eyeglasses, health education, medical consultations, and free medication.

The educational support programme provided school bags, mathematical sets, and other writing materials to pupils.

Engr. Rosemary Imhnanwa, Project Manager at Kedahan Services Limited Training School, commended the Navy for the initiative.

She emphasised that the programme would shift local perspectives, encouraging self-reliance rather than complete dependence on the government.

“From our interactions, we have helped change the narrative that government must meet all their needs. Every problem presents opportunities, and people should focus on finding solutions,” she said.

Describing the initiative as commendable, she urged the Navy to continue its efforts.

Community leader Mr Solomon Uwawa of Madangho thanked the Navy and expressed hope that the career talk would positively influence the youths.

Residents from Arunton, Ajudaigbo, and Ogidigben communities also participated in the programme.
