A Nigerian fashion brand, Deji & Kola, has opened its first store in the United Kingdom, as part of its global expansion drive. Established in 2017 by two brothers, Deji and Kola Olabintan, the brand’s foray into the UK market signifies a pivotal moment in its pursuit of creative excellence and international acclaim.
In a statement released by Kolapo Olabintan, the creative lead & co-founder of Deji & Kola, he expressed enthusiasm for this groundbreaking endeavour.
“The opening of our first store in the UK epitomises our unwavering commitment to creativity, culture, and customer satisfaction as we embark on this exhilarating journey,” said Kola Olabintan.
Located at the prestigious St. Georges Shopping Centre in Gravesend, Kent, Olabintan said: “The selection of Kent for our maiden UK outlet is deliberate.
“With its vibrant blend of culture, style, and diversity, Kent offers a fertile ground for our brand to explore the dynamics of scaling globally.
“Our venture into the UK market follows the successful establishment of our flagship store in Calgary, Canada, in May 2023.”
Elevating the significance of this milestone is the profound connection the brand shares with its international clientele, with over 50 percent of Deji & Kola’s patrons hailing from the US, Canada, and the UK.
With the burgeoning Nigerian diaspora in the UK, exceeding 200,000 individuals according to recent census data, the expansion is of strategic importance. By catering to the needs of this demographic while captivating a broader audience, Deji & Kola aims to redefine the landscape of culturally resonant fashion experiences.
The unveiling of its collection, titled ‘Sundown on Mars,’ epitomises the fusion of elegance and the enigmatic allure of the Red Planet. Inspired by a sci-fi metaphor, this collection promises to captivate fashion enthusiasts with its innovative designs and captivating narratives.
To mark the occasion, brand welcomes the public to an exclusive preview of its collection at the Kent store on March 23. Attendees will have the unique opportunity to engage with the brand, explore the curated clothing range, and immerse themselves in a community-centric fashion showcase.
