Nigerian Engineer, Taiwo Sobiyi, rises to Power and Control Systems Supervisor at Chevron

A distinguished Nigerian engineer, Taiwo Oluwole Sobiyi, has been recognised for his outstanding contributions at Chevron, earning a well-deserved promotion to the position of Power and Control Systems Supervisor.

His expertise and dedication have set him apart in the Fortune 500 company, where he has been instrumental in ensuring operational excellence and system efficiency.

Sobiyi holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Lagos, Nigeria, and a Master of Business Administration from the Business School of the Netherlands.

Over the years, he has played a vital role at Chevron Lagos, where he previously served as the Terminal Maintenance Advisor – Instrumentation. In this role, he led a multi-national team in instrumentation maintenance & optimization for Escravos Gas To Liquid (EGTL) a Complex Process Facility, one of the numerous key achievements is the reduced system failures and improved control response time by 20% through targeted maintenance strategies.

As a key member of the Agbami FPSO Incident Emergency Management Team (IEMT), Sobiyi demonstrated exceptional leadership in inspection, troubleshooting, and system repairs.

His ability to navigate the complexities of multi-manufacturer equipment, including Yokogawa Centum VP, Trusted TMR, RS Logix, Woodward, and RockwellPMS systems, showcased his technical prowess.

In his new role as Power and Control Systems Supervisor, Sobiyi will take on greater responsibilities, including leading the implementation of SERIP/FIRM processes, mentoring his team on technical and procedural aspects, and overseeing work order management and critical spare parts availability. He will also act as the IP custodian, ensuring compliance on the facility, and play a key role in turnaround activities and Root Cause Analysis (RCA) processes.

Sobiyi’s promotion is proof of his unwavering commitment, technical excellence, and leadership. His achievement serves as an inspiration for aspiring engineers in Nigeria and beyond, reaffirming the value of expertise and hard work in advancing the energy sector.
