Nigerian Books of Record launches new category, Nigerian Icon of Good Governance

The Nigerian Books of Record (NBR) has announced the launch of a new category today, 17th October, 2024. Speaking with the Newsmen in Abuja, the Director General of Nigerian Books of Record, Professor David David, stated that the Nigerian Icon of Good Governance (NIGG) award is designed to honor individuals who have demonstrated exceptional leadership in promoting good governance principles in Nigeria.

“The foundation of the NIGG Award is rooted in the belief that effective leadership is vital for the development and progress of any society.

This award is meant to inspire leaders to use their power responsibly, to regulate economic and social resources, thereby contributing to the overall betterment and development of Nigeria,” Prof David says adding that gone are the days when good works will go unrecognized.

The award aims to combat corruption, instil transparency and accountability, involve stakeholders in decision-making processes, and prioritize development that benefits the people.

Recipients of the award are expected to be an embodiment of excellence in governance and make significant contributions to the advancement and welfare of Nigerian society.

The Nigerian Icon of Good Governance NIGG Award is a symbol of empowerment for exemplary leadership in Nigeria. It is a prestigious accolade that recognizes and celebrates outstanding leaders who have shown unwavering dedication to good governance, transparency, and accountability in the country.

By honoring leaders who champion the cause of good governance and uphold ethical practices, the NIGG Award aims to foster leadership that is responsible, responsive, transparent, and committed to serving the needs and aspirations of the Nigerian people.

To be eligible for the NIGG Award, nominees must have been elected or appointed to a government position at any level (federal, state, or local) and must have served in that capacity for a minimum of one year while demonstrating a commitment to public service.

A rigorous evaluation process will be used to assess nominees based on ten specific criteria. These include promoting citizen engagement, upholding the rule of law, ensuring transparency and accountability, and investing in social infrastructure development, among others.

The NIGG Award adheres to the standards set by the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UNESCAP), ensuring that recipients are truly deserving of this prestigious honor. By recognizing and celebrating leaders who prioritize good governance, transparency, and accountability, the NIGG Award aims to empower effective leadership for the benefit of all Nigerians.

The introduction of the Nigerian Icon of Good Governance NIGG Award represents a significant stride towards building a more robust and equitable Society.

It serves as a beacon of hope for a future where leaders prioritize the welfare of their citizens and strive towards a brighter and prosperous society for all.
