Nigerian Bar Association opens law library in Ekiti

The Ikere-Ekiti chapter of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) has completed a mini library project and declared it open for its members.

The library was declared open, on Tuesday, during a statutory monthly meeting of the branch in Ikere Ekiti and according to the chairman of the branch, Oludayo Olorunfemi was open to only lawyers and law students who have means of identification.

The presiding judge of the High Court, Ikere Judicial Division, Justice O. I Ogunyemi, who declared the library open, commended the vision of the branch chairman, said the library was the first of its kind in the State and also enjoined lawyers within the jurisdiction to take advantage of the library.

Speaking at the meeting, the chairman of the branch, Oludayo Olorunfemi said the library was necessary for the bar centre and would be a hub where lawyers, especially young lawyers could access law reports, practise guides, law textbooks and journals.

She also revealed that the project was supported by some dignitaries, senior lawyers and a group of people she refers to as ‘Friends of Oludee’, who according to her, made the donation in kind rather than cash donations to the library project.

The chairman also said the library received donation in kind such as; complete set of the Law of the Federation of Nigeria, complete volumes of monthly judgments of Supreme Court of Nigeria for the period 2004-2014 and other practice and textbooks.

The library project also received a complete set of the Laws of Ekiti State and copies of the Ekiti State Palace Court Judgments as donations from the state’s Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Mr Olawale Fapohunda.

She, however, called for more donations in kind from all well-meaning members of the legal profession and the general public.
