Nigerian artistes to watch out for in 2018

2017 was a good year in the entertainment industry, especially for musicians. Friday Treat identifies some of the biggest acts of that year, with indications of even more feats in 2018.

 

Wizkid
With the announcement of the Coachella line-up, Wizkid starts his year on a solid note. With his eyes set on advancing his sound beyond the continent, this performance will fit perfectly into his intentions to make his stamp on the world stage.

While 2016 gave us “One Dance”, a chart-topping collaboration with Drake, 2017 saw the release of his mixtape and performances on the road with Future and Chris Brown. His December concert was one of the most anticipated in 2017 and eventually became one of the trending topics to end the year. It will be interesting to see what new barriers Starboy can break in 2018.

 

Davido

Davido had a hugely successful run in 2017, becoming one of the most sought after musicians from Nigeria, His songs, ‘IF’, ‘Fia’ and ‘Like that’ became instant hits in 2017 and his ‘30 billion’ world tour was a runaway success.

He ended the year with a ‘30 billion concert’ which became one of the most talked about events of 2017.

Davido is surely one to watch in 2018.

 

Simi

Simi has found her voice in 2017.

Her album was hugely successful in 2017 and according to critics, 2018 will not be an exception.

Fans expect outstanding features, enforcements and bigger moves.

Simi is definately one to watch this year.

 

Mayorkun

Mayorkun is surely one to watch in 2018, following his good outing in 2017.

His songs ‘Mama’ and ‘Che Che’ remain a fan favourite and a club banger any day. Entertainment watchers opine that the DMW artiste has all it takes to shake the music industry this year.

 

Kiss Daniels

After leaving his label ‘G-Worldwide’ amidst controversies, Kiss Daniels had a rather silent end of year in 2017 but going by his antecedents in the music industry, fans have fingers crossed on Kiss Daniels as one to watch in 2018.

 

 

Maleek Berry

Maleek Shoyebi (born August 11, 1987), professionally known as Maleek Berry, is a British-born Nigerian record producer and recording artiste.

After his break into the spotlight in 2012, Maleek Berry was nominated in the ‘Music Producer of the Year’ category at the 2014 Nigeria Entertainment Awards. Maleek Berry has worked with prominent artistes such as Wizkid, Davido, Wale, Fuse ODG, Runtown and Iyanya.

In 2017 he was nominated in the Best Male category of the annual MOBO Awards. With a string of hits in 2017 and his EP dropping this year, he is surely one to watch.

 

Dice Ailes

Shasha Damilola Alesh better known by his stage name Dice Ailes, is a Nigerian singer, songwriter and rapper.

In July 2014, he signed a record deal with Chocolate City.

He was nominated for Rookie of the Year at The Headies 2016. In 2016, TooXclusive ranked his breakthrough single ‘Miracle’ third on its list of the “Top 10 Songs for the month of October”.

In 2017, tooXclusive named him as “one of the sixteen artistes you need to know.

With hits ‘Ella’ and ‘Otedola’ on heavy rotation across Africa in 2017, Dice Ailes has earned bragging rights as one young artiste to watch out for in 2018.

 

Adekunle Gold

After the release of ‘Sade’, Adekunle released his first official single titled ‘Orente’ through YBNL Nation after signing a music contract with the record label on March 5, 2015. He was nominated in the Most Promising Act of the Year category at the 2015 City People Entertainment Awards. On 18 July 2016, Adekunle Gold revealed the cover and track list of his debut studio album titled ‘Gold’.

The album was a 16-track project, with musical production from Pheelz, Masterkraft, B Banks, Sleekamo, Oscar and Seyikeyz.

Upon its release, it peaked at #7 on the Billboard World Album Chart for the week of 13 August 2016. Moreover, it was critically reviewed by contemporary music critics. Following his departure from YBNL Nation due to the expiry of his contract, Adekunle Gold unveiled his band “The 79th Element” in reference to the atomic number of gold.

He successfully hosted his first concert in December 2017 and his unique sound stands him out as one to watch in 2018.

 

Small Doctor

Every single was a hit in 2017! Fror Small doctor, 2017 was surely his defining year. His instant hit ‘Penalty’, ruled the airways and dance clubs.

He then dropped ‘This year’ late last year and stamped his presence in almost all the major shows across Nigeria.

His fan base cuts across all age groups and strata of society and fans can’t wait to discover what this young and energetic artiste has in store for this year.

 

Reekado Banks

Reekado Banks, since releasing his debut album, ‘Spotlight’ in 2016, has grown to become a household name in Nigeria.

In 2017, he dropped a string of hits and became highly sought after by event organisers.

His ‘Thank you’ concert, held in conjunction with the Ibadan Countdown Festival pulled a massive 11,000 fans on December 22, 2017 at the Palms Mall, Ibadan.

His current single, ‘Like’ featuring Tiwa Savage is also enjoying massive acceptance. 2018 may turn out to be his year going by the huge fan love he is enjoying at the moment.
