Nigerian Army to collaborate with Oyo NAWOJ on students’ sensitisation

Based on belief that children need to be enlightened on issues like drug abuse, sexual harassment and other vices that can affect that future and the need to set them on the right part for a better future, the General Officer Commanding (GOC) 2 Division, Major General Bamidele Alabi, has expressed the readiness of the command to collaborate with the Nigerian Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ), Oyo State to sensitise pupils in schools within the cantonment and other schools within the state.

The GOC made this known while receiving executives and members of the Oyo State Chapter of (NAWOJ) at the Headquarters 2 Division Conference Hall in Ibadan.

Major General Alabi in addition said that the country is currently facing more of internal security challenge to cross- border threat and sought joint efforts to combat the menace.

He described the security challenges in the country as internal called for the support of Nigerians especially journalists to overcome the security problems, explaining that the Nigerian army is doing everything possible to ensure the security of the country as enshrined in the constitution of the country.

“It is not the traditional kind of threat that we have in those days; just look at our borders, when another country invades us like we had with Nigeria and Cameroon, we flushed them out, the current security environment that we have now requires a comprehensive approach and everybody has to be involved in addressing it.

“The army is basically doing everything possible to ensure the security of Nigeria in line with the constitutional responsibility and joint environment efforts in line with the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja’s philosophy of transforming the Nigerian Army to a well trained, equipped and highly motivated force towards achieving a constituency responsible in a joint environment,” he said.

The GOC added that joint environment enables all stakeholders in wherever they operate to work together, saying the Army through this, is being transformed to a better position to perform better, reiterating the important role journalists play in projecting the army across board, adding that the Army cherishes the relationship it enjoys with the body as a whole.

Earlier in her address, the chairperson of Oyo NAWOJ, Comrade  Jadesola Ajibola said the purpose of the visit was to familiarise the association with the 2division for a continuous robust partnership and  commended the GOC for the efforts made by the Nigerian Army especially the 2division in the just concluded off cycle elections.

Mrs Ajibola who led other members of the association told the GOC that NAWOJ would want to enlighten students of Army Day school about girl/ child issues.
