Nigerian-American politician, Abegunde, cautions Tinubu over involvement in Niger crisis

Nigerian-American politician and business administration expert, Mr Kayode Abegunde, has cautioned President Bola Tinubu, over Nigeria’s involvement in the ongoing crisis rocking West African neighbour, Niger Republic.

Tribune Online reports that a military coup on July 26 removed President Mohamed Bazoum of the Niger Republic from power.

This development has continued to generate reactions from countries around the World including the federal republic of Nigeria.

Tinubu, on Friday, wrote to the Senate of the federal republic of Nigeria seeking support for ECOWAS resolutions against the military junta in Niger Republic.

He also sought the backing of the upper legislative chamber on the cutting off of electricity supply to the country.

In a swift reaction, Abegunde, a leading contender for the position of Insurance Commissioner in the State of Delaware, in next year’s election in the United States of America, urged President Tinubu to tread with caution as Nigeria’s intervention, if not properly handled, may lead to what the country cannot withstand.

Abegunde further noted that what should be Tinubu’s priority at this point in time is the welfare of the people of Nigeria, majority of whom are facing difficult times at the moment.

He noted that: “Tinubu as the Chairman of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), has the responsibility of taking action towards what happened in Niger Republic, but not at the detriment of the good people of Nigeria and the country at large.

“My piece of advice for President Tinubu is to please thread caution so that history will be kind to him.”
