#NigeriaDecides2019 | PDP leaders lament continued detention of Kwara Senator

Published by

Leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Kwara State have lamented the continued detention of the senator representing Kwara South senatorial district, who is also the party’s candidate for the same position in the ongoing elections, Senator Rafiu Ibrahim, two days after he was arrested by the police over alleged involvement in political clash at Ojoku ward, Oyun local government area of the state.

Speaking with journalists after they cast their votes in Efue and Ilorin on Saturday, the PDP governorship candidate, Razaq Atunwa and former national chairman of the party, Alhaji Kawu Baraje, respectively, said that the continued detention of the candidate in the general elections where he is also a candidate was tantamount to intimidation of political opposition.

The PDP leaders said that the serving senator should have been released to perform his civic duty, more so, since he is a candidate in the general elections.

It will be recalled that that Senator Ibrahim was arrested on Thursday over alleged involvement in a political clash where two people were reportedly killed and several others wounded, despite his claim that he was not present at the scene of the clash or had anything to do with the incident.

Meanwhile, the APC governorship candidate, Alhaji Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq, has denied allegations of a clampdown on the opposition in the state.

Speaking with journalists in Ilorin on Saturday after casting his vote, Alhaji Abdulrazaq said that he had been attacked about four times in the past and nothing had happened.

“Over the past, I have been attacked four times, nothing has happened. Two people were killed in Offa. The day before yesterday, we were campaigning, with Vice President on ground. Five people were shot. I was at the General Hospital, I saw it. So, can you blame the police for reacting?” he said.
