#NigeriaDecides2019 | I can’t do without voting, says 95- year-old woman in Lagos

Published by

A 95-year-old woman, Madam Elizabeth Adedoyin, exercised her civic duty voting at Ward 033 polling unit, on Ope-Ewe Street, Jankara, Ijaiye-Ojokoro area of Lagos, at exactly 11. 34 am on Saturday.

She was accompanied to the polling unit, a distance of about 200 metres from her home by her son’s wife, Mrs Olufemi Adeyeye, a retired school principal in Lagos State, who also cast her vote at the same place.

The nonagenarian told our correspondent who monitored the election that even though she is a stark illiterate, she must exercise her voting right at every general election in the country.

She said she had never in her life missed any vote since she reached the age of voting more than 70 years ago.

Speaking in Yoruba language, she said she must have to vote since she is still alive and healthy to walk without minding the distant or the weather, either it’s sunny or raining.#

But when asked how does she identify her choice candidate to vote for, she said she does that using the party logo and that she gets educated on that through the radio.

She, however, said Nigeria ought to have been better than the present both socio-economically and politically if the successive leaders have the political will and interest of the masses at heart.
