The gubernatorial candidate of the Action Democratic Party (ADP) in Oyo state and former governor of the state, Chief Adebayo Alao-Akala, on Saturday casted his vote at 8.44am at Ward 10, unit 13, in front of his family house at Itaara in Ogbomoso and commended the officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) posted to the ward.
Alao-Akala also called on security operatives not to intimidate the people or harass them in any way and also told the people to be peaceful in the performance of their civic duties.
Around Ogbomoso, people trooped out early to perform their civic duties. As early as 7.30am, polling units were already filled up with people awaiting the commencement of the voting exercise.
At Alao-Akala’s polling unit, the electoral officers arrived early and at 8.00am started sensitisation of voters till 8.30 when the exercise started.
The ADP candidate arrived the polling unit around 8.27 and was accredited and he voted without any challenge and he commended the officers for doing a good job and for coming on time.
Speaking on the exercise, Alao-Akala stated that, ” I can only talk about my polling unit because I don’t know what is happening in other units but here, everything is on course but I must add that it can’t be otherwise because this polling unit is a peculiar one; it is a family compound and we can’t fight,” he stated
However, as at 9.30am, there was still issues at Unit 17, Randa area as the card readers were not working and the people were just milling around.
Also at Isale Alasa in Ogbomoso North local, the card reader did not read fingerprints and voting is yet to commence at 9.50am.
