#NigeriaDecides2019 | Against speculation, the process has been peaceful —Oyetola

Governor Gboyega Oyetola of Osun State says that against the speculation that logistic and security hitches may threaten the presidential and National Assembly elections, the process has, so far, been peaceful.

The governor spoke in an interview with journalists shortly after voting at his Ward 1, Unit 2B, Popo, Iragbiji polling centre in Boripe Local Government Area of the state.

Oyetola, who arrived at the polling centre with his wife around 10:16am, expressed satisfaction on the large turnout of voters, saying he was happy that the last week’s postponement did not discourage the electorate.

He said: “The presence of security operatives around leaves assurance to safety. Unlike what was being speculated, the process has been peaceful so far.

“I know that there is going to be a good turnout as more people will still come to vote. People have been trooping out. So far, the process is tidy; people come around, cast their votes and go”.

On security reports from areas that were marked as flash point, he said: “I have been in touch with some places across Osun State. So far, it has been very peaceful except for a very few places that are naturally tensed which is not unexpected.

“I believe we are going to have a free, fair and credible election. So far so good, it has been peaceful. I hope that they will be able to sustain it.

“I am aware of what obtains here at this centre. I really need to contact some other areas to know what the situation is like. But it has been quite impressive.

“My appeal is that this is the time to exercise their voting right; to elect their leaders. You cannot continue to complain about leadership if you don’t elect the right persons that you want. I urge all, don’t waste the opportunity that you have. You may not have the opportunity until another four years.

“If you want good leader come out and vote for your leaders. I have had information regarding Ilase, Ibokun and a few areas. There had been crises in the areas in the past. I know that the security personnel is up to the task and it has been peaceful.”
