Nigeria@64: Senate President, CJN top list as Tinubu confers national honours

During his national broadcast marking Nigeria’s 64th Independence anniversary, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu announced the conferral of national honours to several key figures, highlighting their contributions to the nation.

Among the top recipients are Senate President Godswill Akpabio and Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN) Kudirat Kekere-Ekun, who were both conferred with the Grand Commander of the Order of the Niger (GCON), one of Nigeria’s highest honours.

In his speech, Tinubu revealed the honours as part of the tradition of acknowledging those who have played significant roles in the governance and judiciary of the country.

“As is the tradition, the government will soon announce all the beneficiaries of our national honours for 2024,” Tinubu stated.

The Senate President and the CJN’s honours are part of a broader list, including other notable government figures.

The Deputy Senate President and Speaker of the House of Representatives were awarded the Commander of the Order of the Federal Republic (CFR), while the Deputy Speaker of the House was conferred with the Commander of the Order of Niger (CON).

The national honours, a yearly tradition, recognise individuals for their contributions to the country’s development and governance.
