Nigeria will on Monday and Tuesday host the 6th Session of the Nigeria-United States Bi-National Commission (BNC) in Abuja.
The Nigerian Ministry of Foreign Affairs made this known in a statement issued by its spokesperson, Francisca Omayuli, stating that the BNC comprises various working groups covering a range of areas of cooperation between the two countries.
According to the statement, there are currently five Working Groups including shared prosperity, which focuses on economic development and trade relations; security cooperation; democracy, governance and accountability; movement of people and partnership, involving global issues, multilateral reforms and health.
“It is therefore expected that both sides would leverage the strategic engagement to address mutual challenges and pursue common goals.
“Held alternately in the capitals of the two countries, the 6th Session of the BNC will be co-chaired, on the Nigerian side by the Honourable Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Yusuf M. Tuggar (OON) and on the US side by the Deputy Secretary of State, H.E. Kurt Campbell.
“Other participants at the event will include top government officials from both sides, experts, diplomats, policymakers, private sector representatives, and civil society organizations among others,” Omayuli noted.
The ministry noted that the Nigeria-US BNC, which was established in 2010, serves as a platform for high-level discussions on issues of mutual interests to enhance cooperation on shared priorities.
