Akin Olateru
The Nigerian government has expressed readiness to assist the Ghanaian Accident investigation Bureau (AIB) in the areas of equipment and human capital development.
Speaking while welcoming the Ghanaian team from the AIB to Nigeria, the Commissioner of the Accident Investigation Bureau (AIB) in Nigeria, Akin Olateru stated that the country was to assist Ghana as the investigation Bureau in the country was only a year old.
According to him, “we are assisting Ghana in the area of human capital development, this is critical to any establishment in the world, they need to build capacity, yes, they have identified some investigators, but they still need some training and support.
“And the second area which Nigeria will be assisting Ghana is in the area of equipment, we will be supporting Ghana with our safety laboratory up until when they can fund and stand-alone on investigation equipment.
“They have an Act that has established the organisation, the next stage is the implementation,” Olateru stated.
On his part, the Commissioner of Ghana Accident Investigation Bureau (AIB), Akwesi Agyebi Premeh appreciated the Nigerian government for its leadership and support through the aviation lectures.
He stated that “we still need to come and see what we are lacking” adding that they will send the permanent investigators on training to Nigeria.
“So, in a form of Corporation, we are coming back to fill in all the gaps, so that, in a short, medium, and long term, we will become like what we are envying today,” he said.
The Ghana Accident Investigation Bureau team were on three days facts finding visits, they tour many Nigerian institution and equipment both in Lagos and Abuja.
