Nigeria receives 698,880 AstraZeneca doses, flags off second phase vaccination exercise

THE Federal Government on Monday received additional 698,880 doses of Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine, as it commenced the second phase vaccination of citizens against the COVID-19 virus. 

Speaking at the flag-off ceremony held at the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Jabi Abuja, Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Boss Mustapha, said the second phase would be largely prosecuted with about four million doses of Moderna vaccines recently donated by the government of the United States of America. 

Mustapha also said the country received another 177,600 doses of Johnson and Johnson COVID-19 vaccines from the African Union (AU). 

Executive Director, National Primary Health Care Development Agency (NPHCDA), Faisal Shuaib, disclosed at the event that the 698,880 doses of Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine were part of the donation by the government of the United Kingdom, adding that it would be targeted at those due for the second doses of the vaccines. 

“In the next couple of weeks, we will be expecting up to 3.9 million doses of the AstraZeneca vaccines to complement what we already have,” he said.
