He made the submission in a lecture delivered at the 30th anniversary of Osun Anglican Diocese, entitled The Role of the Church in Nation Building.
Lamenting the attitude of youths towards politics, and urging them to take a cue from the examples of visionary leaders such as Chief Obafemi Awolowo, he stated that the country was living on past glories.
He called for all hands to be on deck to ensure that the country achieved its full potential in terms of positive development.
According to him, the church has a major role to play in national affairs and as such, requires the concerted efforts of the Christian community to move the country forward.
Bishop of Osun Diocese, Right Reverend James Afolabi Popoola, in his goodwill message, noted that the diocese used the occasion to celebrate the faithfulness, goodness and mercy of God, as well as the unity of purpose.
He thanked the members of the clergy and laity for their “support, genuine love and cooperation in moving the diocese forward, stating that their “your labour of love shall be fully rewarded.”
He called for rededication to the furtherance of God’s kingdom, so as to “leave behind an enduring legacy for the coming generation.”
The two-week event featured rally; revival; Bible quiz; Youth Day; Women Day; dedication of St. Peter’s Church, Kupelete, Inisa, St Jude’s Church, Oke-Odo, Osogbo and Church of Redemption, Owode, Ilesa Road, Osogbo; book launch; award ceremony and thanksgiving service at Cathedral of All Saints, Balogun-Agoro, Osogbo.
