Following the Sunday explosion that led to the loss of lives and properties at Abule Ado area of Lagos state, a security expert, Ambassador Amos Olaniyan, on Tuesday, called for a policy that will ensure petrol and gas trucks owners as well as dealers, will compulsorily install anti-explosive device control in their vehicles and plants, to ensure the safety of lives and property as well as forestall tragic occurrences.
Olaniyan, the Chief Executive Officer of Crime Alert Network which deals with the safety of lives and property called on concerned authorities especially the management of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), to partner with the private sector or individuals with adequate knowledge and facilities to help protect pipelines and other related property of the corporation.
According to him, stakeholders must prioritise measures geared towards prevention of explosion along gas or fuel pipelines as the effect is always tragic on the whole community.

He explained that there exists a number of devices that could prevent explosion even in cases of fire accidents, adding that such prevention would also protect the nation’s economy as the gas explosions would not only waste lives and properties but will also affect the economy of the nation if not properly managed.
He described the Lagos explosion as a national disaster, adding that the accident could have been prevented if necessary measures had been taken.
Ambassador Olaniyan called on stakeholders in Nigeria’s oil sector to take precautionary measures against petrol and gas explosion in the country to ensure the safety of lives and property and also take serious efforts aimed at preventing the recurring cases of gas or tanker explosions in Nigeria.
“Aside from the general protection required of every citizen who is using anything at home that could explode, people need to pay close attention to personal effects that could cause a fire outbreak and take precautionary measures. Anyone that uses an explosive material like a gas cylinder, generator or even a car can install anti-explosive devices that will prevent explosion even when common accidents occur,” Olaniyan said, condoling with victims of the Lagos explosion and the Lagos State Government for the astronomical loss.
