Nigeria moving back to days of Abacha under Tinubu – Afenifere

The Pa Adebanjo-led faction of Afenifere, a prominent Yoruba socio-cultural group, has expressed concern over what he described as authoritarian tactics of President Bola Tinubu’s administration.

In an exclusive interview with Arise News, National Publicity Secretary Justice Faloye condemned the government’s handling of the economy and repression of citizens protesting worsening economic conditions.

Faloye warned, “We are moving back to the days of Abacha if we are not careful. The administration’s actions are treasonable, not the protesters.”

Afenifere accused Tinubu’s government of economically sabotaging Nigerians under the guise of economic reforms, exacerbating poverty and ignoring citizens’ plight.

Faloye, however, demanded the immediate release of protesters jailed for treason, advocating for charges of wilful destruction of properties instead.

This criticism highlights growing concerns about Tinubu’s administration style and economic policies, sparking fears of human rights violations.

The Presidency has yet to respond to Afenifere’s allegations.
