Nigeria, Mauritius sign MoU on trade and investment

The Nigerian Association of Chambers of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture (NACCIMA) and her Mauritian counterpart, Mauritius Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MCCI) have signed a memorandum of understanding on exploring opportunities inherent in African Growth and Opportunity Act.

At the event, which took place in the World Chamber Congress in Rio, Brazil saw the president of NACCIMA, Hajiya Suratu Iya Aliyu and her Mauritian counterpart, Mr V. Varday, signed documents on promotion of collaboration between the two chambers in areas of private sector business service, investment cooperation in textiles, tourism, fisheries development and financial services.

Speaking to delegate at the congress, Hajiya Suratu Iya Aliyu called for a road map on capacity development of the Chambers.
Hajiya Saratu Iya Aliyu drew their attention to the positive role the Chambers play in their various capacity and called for a reformation in the education of both old, new and future generation of the chambers in order to harness the opportunities that lie in the revolution of e-commerce, digital trade and Start Ups.

“With this it will enable private sector operators to make significant contributions in achieving an inclusive economic growth, development as well as a shared, prosperous future for countries and people across the world,” She said.

She also congratulated the Abuja Chambers of commerce and industry Business Entrepreneurship Skills and Technology (BEST) Centre for being selected as one of the 5 most outstanding Chambers in the world with Chambers of commerce Educational and Capacity Development Programme.
“This is encouraging and I commend the President of the ACCI, Prince Tokunbo Kayode and staff of the BEST Centre for their initiatives and commitment to Capacity Development and Training at the BEST CENTRE,” she stated.

Among the delegates from Nigeria to congress were the president of NACCIMA, Hajia Saratu Iya Aliyu joined by the Nigerian Ambassador to Brazil, Kayode Garrick; President of Lagos Chambers of Commerce Industry Mines and Agriculture, Mr Babatunde Ruwase; Director General of NACCIMA, Amb. Ayo Olukanni; President Benue Chambers, Dr Ubwa; Mrs Toki Mabogunje, Chief Bayo Jimoh and the Director of Education Committe of NACCIMA and the Abuja Chambers of Commerce.
