Nigeria to launch e-Govt implementation master plan —Shittu

THE Minister of Communications, Adebayo Shittu, has announced that the Federal Government will soon launch e-Government implementation plan.

He made this announcement at the 2017 Nigerian Telecom Consumer, organised by the Nigerian Communication Commission (NCC), held in Abuja.

Shittu advised government at all levels to digitise their records and adopt only Nigeria-made software in the process.

He said government was also considering an arrangement that would make digital literacy a minimum requirement for employment and promotion in the country’s public service, pointing out that this would be implemented in phases.

He listed the main challenges of telecom consumers, which included, among others, persistent and rising drop-calls due to consumer-based management; delays in hooking up calls due to congestion stemming from post obsolete equipment and maintenance; power interruptions and social unrest in some regions; networks coverage issues; and enforcement challenges.

Shittu said government was already working on policies and effective strategies to tackle the challenges.

He said further that government was also working to create digital awareness with the objective of increasing the capacity, confidence and trust Nigerians had in digitisation.

Earlier, the NCC Executive Vice Chairman, Professor Umar Garba Danbatta said consumers were at the core of the 8-Point Agenda and regulatory activities of the commission.
