Nigeria to join crusade against carbon emissions by 2021

Nigeria has revealed plans to join countries around the world against carbon (CO2) emissions in the global aviation industry by 2021.

The Federal Government through the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) recently stated that it has already submitted an Action Plans on CO2 emissions mitigation measures and Carbon Offsetting and Reduction Scheme for International Aviation Carbon Offsetting and Reduction Scheme for International Aviation (CORSIA) to the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) and the Economic and Community of West African States (ECOWAS).

The Director-General of the NCAA,  Captain Muhtar Usman who was speaking  at a the Development of States’ Action Plans on CO2 emission event in Lagos, said that it was necessary for Nigeria to join the rest of the world in CO2 emissions, even as he declared that the country could not be left behind in developmental projects in the world.

According to him,  ICAO and ECOWAS intend to use the seminar to provide national action plan for other country on the continent especially in West Africa that were yet to key into the programme.

His words: “This is a concerted effort by all nations of the world because we use the same planet and when there is a change that is adversely affecting the lives of human beings and other beings that are around, we should take it serious and the benefits we stand to get, once there is an improvement in the planet, we will all benefit from it.”
