Nigeria improves in FIFA rankings

Published by

Nigeria has moved up in the latest FIFA rankings released by the world football governing body.

According to the rankings released on its official website on Thursday, Nigeria is now ranked 67th in the world, three spots better than the last rankings.

The Super Eagles however, maintained their 16th spot on the continent behind Algeria, Ghana, Cote d’Ivoire, Senegal, Egypt, Tunisia, Morocco, Cameroon, Congo DR, Cape Verde, Mali, Congo, South Africa, Uganda and Guinea.

It will be recalled that in the July rankings, Nigeria dropped nine places to place 70th in the world – its poorest drop in 2016.

The Super Eagles will on September 3 play host to the Taifa Stars of Tanzania in a 2017 AFCON qualifier, while the team will a month later travel to Zambia to engage the  Chiopolopolo of Zambia in a 2018 World Cup qualifier. They will be at home to play host to Algeria also in a 2018 World Cup qualifier on November 7.

The rankings of the top 20 teams in the world remain unchanged owing to a quiet month of international football, as Argentina remains on top of the ladder ahead of Belgium, Colombia, Germany and Chile.
